Our People

A brief rundown on the services provided by Our People:

Medical

Our Staff Specialists and Medical Officers provide overall supervision of the rehabilitation program; investigate and treat medical issues; monitor client progress and provide information about medications, test results and follow up.

Nursing

Nurses are available 24 hours a day to assist clients. Their role is different to the role of nurses in acute care hospitals. In rehabilitation nurses actively promote independence by teaching, coaching and supporting clients to do as much for themselves as possible. This may include guidance through the self-medication program.

Nutrition & Dietetics


Specialise in the relationship between food, nutrients, health and disease. The service provides nutritional assessments, dietary support and education.

occupational therapyOccupational Therapy


Develops new ways for clients to bathe, eat and dress; assess potential to return to life, work and leisure roles and work with clients to achieve this where possible. They will prescribe and train in wheelchair use; improve independent function ; determine home modifications; assess driving ability and training.

Pastoral Care

Chaplains are available to help clients and relatives in personal and spiritual response to the client’s situation. Clients can call a chaplain if they feel discouraged, need emotional and/or spiritual support, are concerned with personal matters, or need a friend to talk to. Chaplains and pastors of most faiths can be asked to visit.

Physiotherapy

Help to optimise motor performance and functional ability by improving overall muscle strength, coordination and balance. They do this through an individualised training program which may include hydrotherapy; prescribe mobility equipment and home exercise programs.

Helps to develop strategies for dealing with emotional issues, to solve problems and develop positive behaviour patterns. Recreation Therapy Assists to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to participate in your chosen recreation and leisure interests on your return to community life and encourages your involvement in outings in the community. This service is only available in the Brain Injury, Adult Rehabilitation and Spinal Injury Units.

Social Work

Provides support and counselling to assist clients, family/ friends with emotional and psychological adjustment to illness and disability. It also provides assistance with financial, accommodation and legal concerns and can organise community support services. Clients or relatives/ friends can request to speak to a social worker at any stage during the stay.

Speech Pathology

Provides individually tailored rehabilitation programs if there is an acquired speech, language, cognitive, voice and/ or swallowing problem/s.
