They will prescribe and train in wheelchair use; improve independent function ; determine home modifications; assess driving ability and training.

Pastoral Care

Chaplains are available to help clients and relatives in personal and spiritual response to the client’s situation. Clients can call a chaplain if they feel discouraged, need emotional and/or spiritual support, are concerned with personal matters, or need a friend to talk to. Chaplains and pastors of most faiths can be asked to visit.

Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care Objectives

The Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care Service supports, nurtures and expresses the spiritual beliefs and values of the clients, relatives and staff irrespective of religion or denominational affiliation of faith. The Chaplaincy Co-ordinator manages the volunteer chaplains, provides pastoral care services for clients and co-ordinates school students wishing to carry out community service at the Centre.

Chaplaincy Volunteers

There are a total of 46 volunteers active in pastoral visitation and the provision of church services at Royal Rehab. The Chaplaincy Co-ordinator now conducts debriefing sessions with each of the volunteers who undertake pastoral visitation. This has helped the Co-ordinator to provide greater input at handover meetings on the units and contributes to the overall well being of the client and dealing with their needs.
