Improving driving confidence after a brain injury
I had a car accident where I sustained a ripped aorta, broken ribs, severe brain swelling and an injury to my lower back.
Getting back to driving was difficult as I had a lot of anxiety and I had not been back in a car since my accident.
The driving instructor was extremely patient and stuck with me until I gained some confidence. The time between my accident and getting back to driving was about six months.
I have Lifetime Care and I had about ten lessons as part of my rehabilitation. My main focus was my balance, keeping both hands on the steering wheel, keeping to the left side and keeping an eye on my speed and not going too fast.
Getting back to driving means I have total independence and don’t have to rely on others for transport, which makes my life a lot easier.
